Scrap Magazine

Scrap Magazine, September-October 2010

ISRI [the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries] is the first official sponsor of the State Electronics Challenge, which seeks to encourage state, regional and local governments; schools; and other public entities to responsibly recycle outdated and obsolete electronics. Under the voluntary SEC program, these bodies apree to purchase greener electronic products, reduce the impacts of electronic products during use, and manage obsolete electronics in an environmentally safe way.

The Northeast Recycling Council (Brattleboro, Vermont) is administering the program and providing resources to help the government entities and agencies become leaders in responsibly recycling electronics. The SEC program is modeled after the successful Federal Electronics Challenge, created by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Office of the Federal Environmental Executive.
