John Shegerian, Chairman and CEO of Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), the nation’s leading recycler of electronics and e-waste, has been named an official Advisory Member of the Northeast Recycling Council (NERC).

NERC is a non-profit organization focused on the 10 Northeastern states. Its mission is to advance an environmentally sustainable economy by promoting source and toxicity reduction, recycling, and the purchasing of environmentally preferable products and services. Part of that mission, for more than a decade now, has been for NERC to dig deeper on a national scale regarding the problems surrounding electronic waste. NERC was responsible for extensive national research regarding government attitudes toward electronic waste and has worked directly with various state government agencies, manufacturers and the recycling industry to help develop a better understanding and solutions to the problem.

As an advisory member of NERC, Shegerian will share valuable insight from the perspective of the nation’s leading recycler of electronic waste.

“We’re delighted to have John and ERI involved with NERC on an advisory level,” said Lynn Rubinstein, NERC’s Executive Director. “ERI has set an exemplary example as to what an electronic recycler can be and indeed what a green business can be in general. That John and his team have voluntarily gone the extra mile to become an e-Steward with the Basel Action Network is one of many examples of how they share and promote NERC’s vision for responsible recycling. We look forward to working with John and ERI and benefiting from their likeminded efforts to promote economic and environmental sustainability.”

“It’s an honor and privilege to be able to serve as an advisor to the esteemed Northeast Recycling Council,” said Shegerian. “Lynn and her team have blazed an impressive trail of cutting edge research and information sharing that has played a significant role in influencing legislators, manufacturers and the general public. It will be extremely rewarding to have the opportunity to share our perspectives and real time experience with this forward-thinking group. We’re excited to help make a tangible difference in these ten states and beyond.”
