About Strategic Materials
Strategic Materials (SMI) processes recycled glass and plastic for use in a wide array of products. Established in 1896, Strategic Materials is the largest glass recycler with 40 plants in the United States.
SMI supplies processed, recycled glass to a variety of industries—containers, fiberglass, highway bead, glass abrasives, paints fillers, and specialty glass. Each industry has their own quality standards that dictate the type of recycled glass supply SMI is able to accept. Container redemption companies, municipalities, and Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) are the primary providers of their recycled glass. SMI recycles 2 million tons of glass each year.
